Every time addictive traffic dodger Crossy Road is updated, it receives a handful of secret characters for you to unlock. From the Loch Ness monster to the Chinese god of wealth to a British phone box to the game’s composer, Crossy Road is now jam packed with hidden hoppers.

Luckily for you, we know how to unlock every single one, and we’ll share the full secrets with you. Here’s how to get all the mystery characters in Crossy Road the easy way.

The Princess of all Cosmos

Princess

While playing as the Prince of all Cosmos, roll up a substantial number of items into your Katamari ball. That means rolling over the little boxes, toasters, teddy bears, chairs, and other trash you see lining the streets.

If you get enough stuff before getting a game over, you’ll unlock The Princess of all Cosmos.

The King of all Cosmos

King

We’re not sure exactly how to get this guy, but we unlocked him at the same time as The Princess of all Cosmos. Perhaps it involves making an even bigger Katamari ball, or getting a high score with The Prince. Let us know if you figure it out.

The Queen of all Cosmos

Queen

When playing as The King of all Cosmos, who shoots out rainbows every few hops, change a certain number of objects into rainbow colors and you’ll unlock the King’s wife for your roster of characters.

Bones

Paleon

Win or buy the Palaeontologist character. When playing as her, you’ll notice big dino bones laying about on the grass. Pick up all the pieces for a dinosaur – a head, a tail, a rib cage, and a few leg bones – and then die.

Iceberg

Iceberg

This one’s easy to get: provided you’ve unlocked all the other characters in the Arctic update. You need to dunk the Puffin, Lost Penguin, Arctic Hare, Arctic Fox, Lemming, Narwhal, Wolverine, Walrus, Polar Bear, and Slippy Penguin in the water to get the iceberg.

Seal

Seal

Unlock the Seal by playing as the Polar Bear, and completing all five missions to clean up the Arctic. After finishing the final mission, you’ll get the Seal for your roster.

Chinese Monster

Chinese Monster

To unlock Chinese Monster, you first have to buy or unlock the New Year’s Doll that was added on the 2016 Psy Daddy update. Then, you must chase down and catch the Chinese Monster that appears. When you grab it, it’s yours.

Coconut Water

Coconut Water

To unlock Coconut Water, you first have to buy or unlock the Tourist that was added on the Brazilian update. Then, you must collect approximately ten coconut cocktails during your run. In the end, you’ll get the Coconut Water.

Purple Bloop

Blinky

You need to use the Grablin to unlock this character. As you tap to cross the road, you’ll also be attacking Crossy Road characters in a little clicker RPG at the top of the screen.

If you manage to defeat a character higher than level 35, you’ll unlock the Purple Bloop at the end of your run.

Yeti

Yeti

To unlock the Yeti, you need to play as one of the characters in the Christmas 2015 update – specifically, the Snowman, Elf, Pudding, Reindeer, Tio De Nadal, Birthday Kid, or Grablin.

As you play, you’ll eventually come across a Yeti throwing snowballs. Move into the path of the snowballs and allow yourself to be hit by one. This will kill you and end your run, but also unlock the Yeti.

Totem

Totem

This mystery character is the Totem from Monument Valley. To unlock him, you first need to be playing as one of the MV characters – Ida, A Crow, or The Storyteller – so buy or receive one of them first.

Totem

Then, keep your eye on the water. Like Hipster Whale and Nessie, Totem will randomly be found swimming along the water in the place of a log. All you have to do is hop on its head, and then die, to unlock this new character.

Inky

Inky

To get Inky, you need to be playing as Pac-Man. Then, get a score of 2500 in the Pac-Man game mode over the course of multiple runs to unlock Inky.

Blinky

Blinky

For this red chap, you should be playing as the Pac-Chicken. Now, your job is to get run over by Pac-Man, who randomly appears and speeds across the level.

Blinky

He’s hard to find and even more difficult to get run over by, but listen for his distinct audio cue and look for roads without any cars – Pac-Man doesn’t travel on roads with cars.

Pinky

Pinky

Play as Pac-Chicken for Pinky, too. For her, you need to find and gobble a pair of pixel art cherries that appear randomly on the world map.

Pinky

They’re relatively rare, so just have patience and keep playing until you find them.

Clyde

Clyde

Getting Clyde involves playing as Pac-Man, grabbing a power pellet, and eating ghosts. Lots of ghosts. It seems like you have to eat seven ghosts from one power pellet. You’ll then get Clyde when you next die.

Cylde

You can make this a lot easier by eating a power pellet while in power mode. This will significantly lengthen the amount of time you have to munch on ghosts.

Pro Gamer

To unlock the Pro Gamer, you need to be playing as one of the Korean characters – Seoul Chicken, Jindo, Kimchi, Seonbi, Taekwondo Master, Korean BBQ, Korean Drummer, PSY, or K-Drama Actor.

Your goal is to get a score of over 40 while maintaining a breakneck input speed. That means you need to avoid waiting around, move left and right if you can’t go forward, and generally hammer the screen whenever you see a clear path.

You’ll see how this all works when you unlock the pro gamer, who shows you your APM (actions per minute) on screen.

Ace (Formerly Jughead)

Ace

For this mystery character you’ll first need to buy or unlock Rocky (formerly Archie), and then start playing as him. As you hop along, you’ll notice burgers along the side of the road. Land on one, to eat it.

Jug2

You need to eat 50 (across as many different attempts as you want). When you hit the magic number, you’ll get Ace upon your next death.

Michael Boom

Michael Boom

I’m guessing this guy is supposed to be Michael Bay, which means we’ll need to make a great massive explosion to lure him into our game.

You can be any character. You just need to hop along until you see a big green truck carrying a rocket on its back, like this:

Rocket

Hit by the rocket and it will explode into a stunning voxel-art eruption. You’ll die, apparently, but you’ll get a new character for your trouble.

Phone Box

Phone Box

This guy is pretty easy to get. Just unlock and use one of the British characters (that’s butterfly, badger, fox, squirrel, Queen’s guard, Bobby, Piper, chimney sweep, fancy lady, fancy gent, schoolgirl, or fish ‘n chips).

Secret 1

Then, hop your way to the 100 point mark, and you should reach a clearing with a phone box in it. Keep going until you die, at which point you’ll add this outdated red cuboid to your roster.

Nessie

Nessie

This Scottish monster is basically like the Hipster Whale, in that she will be found swimming along a river and can be used as a platform to cross the stream. The only catch is – you need to be playing as the UK or Irish character. See the list, above.

Nessie

You’ll just have to keep trying. And trying. And trying. And hopefully, you’ll get lucky and have Nessie randomly swim across a river. If you see her, hop on her back, and you’ll get this mythical creature for your roster.

Rugby Player

Rugby Player

The Rugby Player is a tricky one to get. You need to play as a UK character and look out for a rugby ball in a tree.

The screenshot below doesn’t help – it is on the left, but covered a lorry – so just look for a small white square while you play. Once you have gone past it, you’ll get the sportsman upon your next death.

Rugby Ball

To make the rugby ball appear in your run you need to play as the squirrel, and collect four or five acorns in one run.

Leprechaun

Leprechaun

To get this guy you need to find a four-leafed clover. Luckily, it’s a little easier in the game than the real world.

When playing as a UK character the game world will be littered with little three leaf clovers which you can pick up by hopping on them. Sometimes, however, they’ll have four leaves.

Pick up one of these, and you’ll get this lucky Irish fellow’ when you die.

Leprechaun

It can be frightfully hard to see the clovers on a tiny phone screen so either get this character on a tablet or just pick up every clover you see and hope for the best.

Cai Shen

Cai She

The secret character is called Cai Shen and is the Chinese god of wealth. To get this greedy fellow, you need to pick up the little red envelopes that are strewn about the world, while playing as the Fortune Chicken.

You have to get 20 of these things. But don’t worry – you don’t need to get them all in one go. Your red envelope count rolls over from game to game, so you just need to keep collecting them, and eventually, you’ll have enough.

Crab

Crab

To get this crustacean character you need to swipe left and right many times during your run when you’re on sand, snow, or grass.

Whenever you get a spare second, swipe left and right like crazy to sidestep up and down the sand.

Do it about 50 times, while also getting a score of over 40, and you’ll be rewarded with this crab when you next die. This one’s a little tricky: try again if you don’t get the crab on your first attempt at the secret.

Drop Bear

Drop Bear

This guy can be found sitting in a tree, as long as you’re playing as one of the Aussie animals. He’s at a random point along the road, so you’ll just have to keep playing until you find him.

If you finally do seem him, get close enough to him, so he jumps out of his tree and lands on you. This will kill you, which is sad, but you’ll immediately unlock a new character for your roster, which is nice.

Andy Sum

Andy Sum

Andy is one of the three makers of Crossy Road, and you can unlock him as a playable character by getting a new high score – or very close to your high score – while playing as his favorite character.

To get Andy, you need to play as the Mallard.

Ben Weatherall

Ben Weatherall

Same deal as Andy, above. Use the Dark Lord and if your score is above or close to your best when you die you should see a screen that says ‘Great Score’ before unlocking your new character.

Matt Hall

Matt Hall

Matt’s the same as Ben and Andy above, just use the Lucky Cat to get this scamp.

Hipster Whale

Hipster Whale

This guy will appear when you’re playing as any character. He’s found randomly swimming through lakes in the game, and you’ll need to land on his back like you would a log. This will unlock the mascot for the game’s developer, as a character inside the game.

Gifty

Gifty

We need to get the Festive Chicken for this character. Start hopping along until you hear Christmas bells. Soon after, you’ll stumble upon a clearing with a Christmas tree, which showers you with gifts.

Then, when you next get a game over, you’ll receive Gifty for your character list.

There doesn’t seem to be any particular point at which the tree appears. We got it at 100 steps, but others have seen it much earlier or much later in their run, rendering this paragraph useless.

So now that we have shown you how to unlock all the characters in the game, which are your favorites? Let us know in the comment below!
